WHAT'S IN SEASON?

In New South Wales, Dave from Harris Farm says: "

Excessive rain has caused some planting gaps which in turn has led to some shortages in product this week. The vegetable lines appear to be the worst affected with Lebanese cucumbers, cos lettuce, lettuce, broccoli, corn, eggplant, black zucchini and beans all in short supply. No need to worry though - things will turn around quickly as the Queensland season kicks into gear over the next few weeks. The best value for money this week in vegetables is the humble cauliflower. Coming predominately from both Victoria and Bathurst my favourite way to eat cauliflower is roasted, with Parmesan cheese, olive oil, and fresh crushed garlic. What a great way to enjoy fresh cauliflower. Read more

Restaurant Providore and retailer, Fratelli Fresh, has a comprehenisve Market Update of what's available, what's good, in abundance and/or expensive. If you haven't done any of their cooking courses, do yourself a favour and book in for either a free course, or a paid one. It's a great place to learn and purchase excellent produce.

As a weekly market-goer and with my home town being Sydney, I'm sharing my visits between Moore Park EQ, Eveleigh, Double Bay, North Sydney & Frenchs Forest markets. When outo f town, I find my way to the Noosa Farmers Market or the Gold Coast Growers Market. Even further out of town, I discovered the Farmers Market in La Quinta, California. It's such a fun way to shop and to meet people! See Markets

Paddock to Plate, Local Eating & Local Shopping is gaining more awareness across the nation and across the world. There is a combination of price and quality & freshness, and other environmental considerations driving this. See Sydney Morning Herald and Gourmet Traveller

Carmello Ocello's Cheese & Bread counter's at the Entertainment Quarter Markets continue to delight us. We purchased a smooth Buffalo Cheese and a Tasty Goat's cheese which go beautifully with a fig paste or one of their gourmet spreads.

Tomatoes of all varieties are in still abundance with a large selection of Roma, Heirloom, cherry and vine ripened. It's a great time to make roasted tomato soup or a lovely Roast Tomatoes with Raisins & Fetta recipe we found in Gourmet Traveller a few months ago. It goes beautifully with a slow roast lamb or beef. See recipe

Eat healthy & fresh by buying local, seasonal produce. Try the 100-MILE DIET by shopping close to home. It’s an easy way to start thinking local. A 100-mile radius is large enough to reach beyond a big city and small enough to feel truly local. And it rolls off the tongue more easily than the ‘160-Kilometre Diet.’
